Where is my data?

Everything lives on your devices and, when you are signed in to iCloud, in your own iCloud Drive. There is no account with us and nothing is uploaded to a server we run. Use Settings → Export backup now and then and keep the file somewhere other than your devices. If you allow it, Apple's Private Cloud Compute can handle some questions, read your policy or a declarations page, and review your belongings for Check before you file; we never receive any of it.

Asking questions and reading your policy

With Apple Intelligence turned on (a Mac, iPhone or iPad that supports it, on macOS 26 or iOS 26 and later), Ask answers questions in your own words, such as "what would I lose if the kitchen flooded?". Every figure is checked against your library before you see it, and How I worked it out shows what was looked up. Exact questions, such as "how much coverage do I have left?", work on any device.

Fill from my policy… in Settings reads the declarations page from a photo or PDF and shows each field, with the line it came from, before anything is saved. With Pro, Read this policy on a policy document in Documents lists how losses are paid, special limits and exclusions, each with its page, and Coverage warns when what you have documented passes a limit. Only your insurer can confirm what a claim would pay.

When a receipt has several things on it, RenterVault asks which line is the item, and the value includes that line's share of the tax. Check before you file lists what to fix before you send a claim, such as missing photos, serial numbers and values; with Pro it also takes a second look at values and duplicates. With Pro on iOS 27 or macOS 27, Find everything in this photo in Document a room turns one photo of a room into a checklist of the belongings in it.

Photos are always read on your device. With Pro, a bigger question, a question about your policy, a question your device's model can't answer at the moment, reading a whole policy and the second look can use Apple's Private Cloud Compute if you allow it, and, on any plan, so can a declarations page your device can't read right now: RenterVault asks each time unless you choose Never or Automatically for bigger jobs in RenterVault's Settings, under Apple Intelligence. Before anything is sent, the name, address and policy number in your policy details are replaced wherever they're written the same way; written another way, as a declarations page may print them, they can be sent as written. We never receive any of it. To stop using Apple Intelligence in RenterVault, switch off Use Apple Intelligence in RenterVault.

Seeing the same library on every device

Sign in to the same iCloud account on your Mac, iPhone and iPad and leave Settings → Keep in sync across your devices on. An item photographed on the phone appears on the Mac a moment later. If a device shows an older library, open Settings on it and confirm the switch is on and iCloud Drive is enabled for RenterVault in System Settings or Settings.

Moving to a new device

With iCloud sync on, installing RenterVault on the new device is enough. Without it, choose Export backup on the old device, copy the file across, and choose Restore backup on the new one.

Restoring a purchase

One purchase unlocks Mac, iPhone and iPad. If Pro shows as locked on a device signed into the same Apple Account, choose Restore purchases in Settings (or the app menu on the Mac). Subscriptions are managed in your Apple Account settings; the lifetime unlock never expires.

Printing a claim report

Open Claim report, filter to a room if you only need part of the schedule, then choose Print or save as PDF on the Mac (⌘P) or Share PDF on iPhone and iPad to send it straight to your insurer.
